  • John Come Kiss Me Now – Brass Quintet

This piece is No. X from the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book. Byrd was the leading English composer of his generation, and was a protegé of Thomas Tallis. This arrangement by Bill Reichenbach remains faithful to Byrd’s original music, and the brass quintet instrumentation adds color and dynamic shading to intensify the expressive qualities of the music. This piece was made popular to instrumentalists in Gordon Jacob’s William Byrd Suite for band.

An optional ending has been added if you want to stop where the band piece ends. There is also an option to continue, and it gets quite note-y, but provides an excellent opportunity to showcase technical and rhythmical facility. Slurs have been added to facilitate some of the runs, and may be ignored if so desired. Additional dynamics may be added according to the rise and fall of the melodic lines.

  • Madrigal: Draw On, Sweet Night – Brass Quintet

John Wilbye (1574 – 1638) was an English composer, one of the finest madrigalists of his time. Madrigal: Draw On, Sweet Night, written over 400 years ago, is his most well known and greatest work. There is a complex array of harmonic shifts, with constant changes between minor and major. It is delicate, yet powerful, and will work well in any church setting or recital. There is an artistic unity to his writing that every audience should appreciate.

  • naked tuba – Tuba Solo

Alone on stage. Just a chair and a music stand, you and your tuba. Feeling so very exposed, you begin the first notes of naked tuba.

The opening tempo is marked “slow, calm (mostly)” and you are totally free to express yourself. Although written in one continuous movement, the second tempo is marked “agitated (sometimes)” and again, the decisions are all yours.

This piece was written for Doug Tornquist, with great respect and admiration. I've had the opportunity to work with Doug on many occasions and his playing always inspires me to write more.

The tuba is an incredibly lyrical and versatile instrument. This unaccompanied piece celebrates the unlimited colors of this expressive instrument.

The “Add to cart” button shows “Score & Parts”; however, naked tuba is in solo format only, as per the sample first page.

  • No Strings Attached – Brass Quintet

It is so easy to add special conditions, restrictions and expectations to almost anything — even music. Using this as extramusical inspiration, No Strings Attached first attaches each of the strings, followed by a spirited and rhythmic romp interspersed with unifying chorales. At the end, each of the strings are released, one by one.

Music is one of the most valuable things we can share without asking for or expecting anything in return.

    Composer: Anne McGinty
Instrumentation: 2 Bb Trumpets, F Horn, Trombone & Tuba
