Personent Hodie – Saxophone Quartet
Personent Hodie is a Christmas carol originally published in a 1582 Finnish song book, a volume of 73 Medieval songs with Latin texts. A melody found in a 1360 manuscript is highly similar, and it is from this manuscript that the song is usually dated.
It became more prominent in England after being arranged for unison voices and orchestra in 1916 by Gustav Holst. It was written in honor of St. Nicholas, and will add an international flavor to your Christmas concerts.

Sussex Carol – Saxophone Quartet
The Sussex Carol is a Christmas carol popular in Britain, sometimes referred to by its first line “On Christmas night all Christians sing”. It became associated with Sussex because it was collected at Monk’s Gate by Ralph Vaughan Williams, and he subsequently used it in his Fantasia on Christmas Carols.
Each verse is made up of two couplets, with the second having three-measure phrasing rather than the standard two- or four-bar phrasing. In addition, there’s a measure with an extra beat, which adds to the charm of the piece.
Composer: Bill Reichenbach
Instrumentation: 2 Alto, 1 Tenor & 1 Baritone
Duration/# of Pages: ca. 2:20 / 11 pages, 8.5″ x 11″
