• Chief and Frank – Trombone Choir

Scored for five trombones, bass trombone and two trombone soloists, this piece is featured on the album “Bill Reichenbach Quartet, Special Edition.” This 16-track, overdubbed trombone chorale is a showcase for Bill’s varied musical skills and was inspired by two men: Chief is Emory Remington, Bill’s legit trombone teacher at Eastman, and Frank is the late Frank Rosolino, the man Bill considers his “greatest jazz influence.”

More than two soloists can be used is performance. If only one soloist is available, there is an optional part that combines the solo lines.

  • Equinox – Large Brass Ensemble

Equal day, equal night, represented by double brass quintet, conical vs. cylindrical. Seating should be in an inverted V, with tuba on the outside left. Going up the left side, next to tuba is horn 3, then horn 2, horn 1 and cornet at the top of the inverted V. Coming down the right side is trumpet 1 at the top, trumpet 2, trombone 1, trombone 2 and bass trombone, facing tuba.

Brilliantly crafted to maximize the different timbres, the wide ranges and varying instrumental combinations, this is an impressive achievement accomplished with great skill and a welcome addition to the brass repertoire.

The sample score and mp3 excerpt include all three movements.

  • Soundscapes – Mixed Duo

Bass trombone and violin? The concept of these two instruments performing as a duo intrigued this composer! Edwin Miller and Todd Park commissioned this composition and wanted it to be an audience-friendly performance piece. The result is a three movement work based on the acoustic combinations of the two sounds.

The first movement opens with a bold statement of “We're here! Listen!” – dramatic, playful, playable. The second movement begins with the Korean folk song “Arirang” contrasted with “Simple Gifts” and portions of “All The Pretty Little Horses,” and shows off the musicality and sensitivity of the musicians. The third movement's plaintive introduction leads to a boisterous display of “I can do this, can you?” that features glissandos, triple tonguing, pizzicato vs. staccato, etc., and concludes with the violin playing “Arirang” in 3/4 and the bass trombone playing “Simple Gifts” in 4/4, a loud and triumphant finale.

Thank-you, Edwin and Todd, for wanting a piece you can play together for charity events, recitals and just for fun.
